1. Get Rid of Clutter

The first step of this organization project is to get rid of clutter. However, before organizing, you should determine what needs to stay and what needs to go. We like to use the three-box method: one box for items you want to keep, one for things you want to donate, and one for items you want to throw away.

2. Utilize Wall Space

There are many great ways to utilize your wall space and transform it into an efficient storage space. Try using baskets, shelves, and hooks to diminish the clutter on the ground. If you have bicycles, use a wall mount to hang them when they are not in use. A peg board can be easily installed and is a fantastic way to hang small tools and supplies.

3. Add Mounted Shelves

Ceiling-mounted shelves are a great way to store items you don't use often. They can be found at your local hardware store, and most can be easily installed. These will keep your garage floor clear of clutter and allow you to park your car where it belongs. Make sure to hang your shelves high enough, so they do not interfere with your garage door.

4. Store Smart

Store items that you don't regularly use in harder-to-reach areas. Keep the things you use periodically closer to the front to ensure they are more easily accessible. Try to keep items in the same or similar category together so you can find things faster!

5. Consider a Storage Unit

If all else fails and you end up with more than you thought, utilizing self-storage can help you reclaim your space. Small storage units like a 5x5 or 10x5 are affordable and should give you just the right amount of space to keep your most valuable items.
